Open Minds and Open Hearts

I was reflecting on the post I wrote yesterday about being kind of anxious about joining new online groups and my fear of people judging my hand. It was helpful when I thought back to first meeting my friend who also has limb differences and reflecting on my initial uncertainty about her. Her limbs looked different, so part of me felt anxious / hesitant to talk to her. But, I did! And I’m so glad I did because she’s so awesome and such a light and has the kindest, most positive energy.

I feel like the key here is openness. As a society we need to be more open to people who are different and push past that initial uncertainty because they are different from us. It all starts with openness – open minds and open hearts. That goes a long way.

You might not interact with them perfectly. I know some people are unsure how to interact with me sometimes. But, kindness goes a long way too. Be kind. And loving and compassionate. And just try. You never know who you might meet by having the courage to approach them and start a connection. 🥰
