Letter to My Baby Self

This is one of the first pictures taken of me as a baby. I was thinking, what would I want to tell my baby self?

Dear baby Kari,

What a light you are to the world. If you only knew what a huge impact you will have on many, many people’s lives. Your heart….is so, so beautiful. The way it glows. The way you will be able to give such loving, kind energy to everyone you cross paths with. Your energy will change theirs.  You will add such light to them, and they will in turn light others up. That will have such a ripple effect.

You will struggle a lot with your self-image and mental health. I’m not going to lie to you, it will be very hard at first. You will often feel overwhelmed by it all. But you will never give up. You will show yourself and others that life is worth living. You will offer hope to the hopeless. You will remind people of their inner strength.

Slowly, and with openness and time, you will realize your beauty. When you are growing up, some kids will be very mean to you and make you feel like you are so very ugly, and you will hide. That will be the hardest time in your life, and I’m so sorry you will have to go through that.

BUT, because of going through that, you will get to show people how to treat you. You will demand to be treated with love and with kindness, and you will demand others be treated the same. That will be your primary purpose on this Earth – to teach people how to love themselves and how to treat others with love.

You are such a precious, and very much needed, presence in the world. I love you so, so much.
